Sources of Scholarships

Admission

Undergraduate Level

Students in any programs of the Faculty of Economics, Khon Kaen University have opportunities to receive education scholarships in order to promote educational opportunities according to the vision of the KKU that provides society with care and attention, carries on dreams of northeastern youths to further and finish a Bachelor’s Degree, and give a support for the youths’ determination to study at the university. This is for the purpose to help underprivileged students in their living and study. In addition, Student Loans Fund (SLF) provided by the government is another choice for the students. Examples of categories of scholarships are as follows.

  • Student Loans Fund (SLF) provided by the government to help financially underprivileged students to obtain a bachelor’s degree
  • Scholarships granted from H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on the occasion of 40th anniversary of Khon Kaen University
  • Funds donated by private sectors’ donors for Khon Kaen University to allocate for qualified students according to the terms and conditions of the grantors
  • Funds for supporting students’ lunch such as Charoen Pokkaphan Group and Affiliates, and General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh
  • Apart from these, there are also emergency loans for students provided by the university to help alleviate emergency situations.

Graduate Level

There are also 6 categories of scholarship for graduate students to support the development of the potential of the students and the quality of their theses, provided by Faculty of Economics and Graduate School, Khon Kaen University as follows.

The Fund to Support Thesis Conduction

This fund allocates … million per year to promote and encourage students to produce good quality of thesis and is categorized by levels of education as follows:

  –  PhD thesis could receive no more than 100,000 baht per subject.
  –  Master’s Degree thesis could receive no more than 50,000 baht per subject.
  *  Conditions: Thesis proposals must have already been approved.
  *  Application is available twice a year, around the beginning of June for Semester 1 and around the end of November for Semester 2 every year.

The Fund to Support Publication of Thesis Work or Independent Study, with regards to the following conditions:

  –  PhD students could apply for this fund twice, with different research works to be presented or published.
  –  Graduate students could apply for this fund only once.
  *  Conditions: Thesis / independent study proposals must have already been approved.

The Financial Supports to Graduate Students to Pursue Their Research Studies Abroad, with regards to the following conditions:

  –  Thesis proposals must have already been approved.
  –  An applicant must not have received any types of funding or financial assistance for his or her research studies abroad, and in case the applicant has been granted a similar type of funding before departure, he or she has to disclaim this fund.
  –  The students granted are able to pursue their research study abroad for at least 4 weeks.

The Financial Support for Teaching Assistants (TA), with regards to the following conditions:

  –  This funding has been supported by the Development Fund for Graduate Study. This is also with the teaching period of not less than 10 hours per week but not over 12 hours per week.
  –  This fund costs 4000 baht per month for a period of 8 months per academic year, amounting to 32,000 baht.

Funds to Support Research for Thesis or Independent Study, with regards to the following conditions:

  –  An applicant is not receiving, nor has he or she received any types of scholarships for research study from both KKU and the outside while he or she is studying at the KKU Graduate School.
  –  Thesis proposals must have already been approved.
  –  This fund is allocated twice a year, with a total of 75 scholarships per semester and costing 5,000 baht each (first/second semester).
  *  Open for application: Around June and November each year

Research Scholarships for Graduate Study Lecturers

To attract students with high capability and potential to study and pursue their research in the field of lecturers’ expertise, the graduate study lecturers have to submit their research project proposals to apply for the scholarships, with a number of about 20 scholarships offered per year, amounting to 7.5 million baht. See the conditions as follows:

  –  For Master’s Degree level, a scholarship is worth up to 250,000 baht (no more than 2 academic years).
  –  For PhD level, a scholarship is worth up to 500,000 baht (no more than 3 academic years).
  *  Open for Application: Around September each year
