Background and founding of the faculty

About ECON

Faculty of Economics is an institution which was appointed based on the 11th Higher Education Development Plan, Khon Kaen University, as a faculty-level office pursuant to Article 4 of Internal Management of the Higher Education Institutions Act B.E. 2550 and the announcement of the Higher Education Commission on Criteria for Founding of Internal Offices in the Higher Education Institutions B.E. 2555. Given that Khon Kaen University had become the autonomous university, the university issued the announcement no. 1765/2558 dated the twenty-fifth of July, 2015, on the Establishment of Offices of Khon Kaen University, which specifies the establishment of offices, including the Faculty of Economics, and there was the announcement in the Royal Thai Government Gazette, Issue 132, Special Section 186 NGO dated the thirteenth of August, 2015; thus, Faculty of Economics is a faculty-level institution of Khon Kaen University. Afterwards, Khon Kaen University issued the announcement No. 125/2559 dated the fourth of February, 2016, on Management of Faculty of Economics, specifically related to the transfer of courses, students, staff and essential resources. The faculty established the dean’s office to provide any service at Building 4, 4th floor, Faculty of Management Science, as its temporary office.

With ASEAN integration and an expansion of businesses in regional areas, there has been a need for in-depth knowledge for economic development of the Greater Mekong Sub-region and for staff with knowledge and understanding of attributes of growth and problems in the region.

developed the acquired knowledge to create opportunities and equality in society

It also serves as a mechanism in synthesizing and proposing economic policies which help propel and develop regional economy in various aspects, namely development economics, natural resource and environmental economics, health economics, international economics and industry and innovation management economics.​

Apart from its academic missions, Faculty of Economics still pursue the following missions which must be carried out to comply with the university’s vision.

Given the fact that the faculty is an organization which touches upon finance and economics with a constantly-changing dynamic, the faculty uses the symbol with such a dynamic which is the alphabet O of the world econ and furnishes it with gold leaves like expanding knowledge to society for further developments.

Administration

The Faculty of Economics is operated as an autonomous organization with good governance as well as high flexibility of administration, which allows the faculty to keep up with modern advancement.

Productivity goals

Pursuing the productivity policies of the Thai government as well as Khon Kaen University, the Faculty of Economics aims to produce graduates adhering to the principles of academic freedom as well as accountability. The faculty has also created several academic curriculums to fulfil the requirements of current labour market. The curriculum plans and the target numbers of student admission during the years of 2017-2021 are as follows

Productivity goals

The practice of quality and standard control for the Faculty of Economics is adopted under the Act of Khon Kaen University, as follows:

        1) The quality control of the Faculty of Economics is subject to the internal education quality assurance by Office of the Higher Education Commission, the external education quality assurance by The Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment, the terms and conditions of Thai Qualifications Framework for Higher Education in 2009, Standard Curriculums for Higher Education in 2005, Standard Curriculum for Bachelor’s degree in 2005, and Standard Curriculum for Master’s degree in 2005.
 
        2) The Faculty of Economics at Khon Kaen Univesity, as a national university of Thailand, is the first institution in the northeastern region to be responsible for producing graduates who own the particular qualification of Economics. The faculty also aims to produce graduates who hold distinguishing characteristics: understanding the mechanism of specific economic systems in the broad aspect as well as analyzing actual circumstances to yield solutions and principles for development of community, society, the nation, graduates, research, and academic services.
 

        3) The Faculty of Economics has three main output goals including graduates, research and academic services. Graduates of the Faculty of Economics are able to work in whether educational or financial institutions as well as profitable or non-profitable organizations, and they are ensured to have high skills in thinking, conducting resource analysis and using economic instruments. In relation to the research goals, the faculty carries out both basic and applied research on economics covering the fields of agriculture, industry, community development environment, energy, politics, human resources, etc. Academic services offered by the faculty are meant to satisfy all community levels, from household to organizations, in order to apply economics-based knowledge for instruments, evaluation, and development.

        4) The Faculty of Economics is required to determine all of the necessary administrative procedures, as follows: the student admission process which is proper for the target numbers from both direct and central admission, the study-to-faculty ratio at 1:25 with a higher number of PhD lecturers, continual improvement of curriculums for modern appropriateness, extracurricular activities for students, and pedagogical approaches integrated with technology for student’s learning optimization.
