The Economy and Environment Partnership for Lower Mekong Subregion (EEI-LMS) Research Center and the Faculty of Economics
The EEPSEA Annual Conference was held successfully from the 1st to the 2nd of December 2022 at the Landmark Hotel Bangkok, Thailand, providing a platform for exchanging research ideas and making connections to advance the field of environmental economics through transdisciplinary approaches.
The conference “Environmental Economics in Southeast Asia: Transdisciplinary Approaches to Sustainability and Quality of Life” was hosted by the Economy and Environment Partnership for Lower Mekong Subregion (EEI-LMS) Research Center and the Faculty of Economics at Khon Kaen University, with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida)
• On the first day of the conference was honored to have Dr. Pham Khanh Nam (EEPSEA Regional Director), Dr. Eren Zink (First Secretary/Research Advisor, Embassy of Sweden in Thailand) and Prof.Dr. Kullapapruk Piewthongngam (Faculty of Economics, Khon Kaen University Dean) gave the opening remarks. Following the warm welcome was the keynote speech by Prof.Dr.Uri Gneezy, University of California San Diego on the topic of “Mixed Signals: How Incentives Really Work” Next, 3 parallel sessions were held on different topics : Risk and Experiment, PES, Valuation, Climate change, Development, Sustainability and Policy and new research proposal presentations.
• The second day of the conference began with the keynote speech by Prof.Dr.Lars Hein, University of Wageningen on the topic of “The UN System of Environmental Economic Accounting – Ecosystem Accounting to measure and value natural capital” The day continued with 3 parallel sessions were held on different topics : Valuation, Development, Sustainability and Policy and new research proposal presentations.
All attendees with varied scientific interests enjoyed the conference. As Dr. Hermina Francisco and Dr. Phumsith Mahasuweerachai stated in their closing remarks, the conference achieved its goal of facilitating networking, information exchange, and collaboration among researchers, which is also EEPSEA’s mission in promoting transdisciplinary research for development and the environment.
